How to store Chocolate Marshmallow Fudge
Chocolate marshmallow fudge stores extremely well and is a great recipe to make ahead and store away for later. Especially if you are making this recipe during the holiday season, this is one recipe that you can make in advance for any holiday guests that might pop by!
At room temperature
To keep chocolate marshmallow fudge fresh at room temperature, make sure to store it in an airtight container. Otherwise, it will start to dry out and the outside with become dry and crumbly.
This marshmallow fudge made with sweetened condensed milk can be stored at room temperature for 2 days.
Fridge
Chocolate marshmallow fudge will dry out quickly in the fridge and also tends to pick up any strong odours from the other food in the fridge. This is why it is very important to store it in an airtight container, before placing it in the fridge.
Fudge stored properly can be kept in the fridge for 3 weeks. Make sure to remove the fudge from the fridge to allow it to warm slightly before serving for the best taste and texture.
Freezer
Chocolate marshmallow fudge freezes extremely well, when stored properly. To freeze this decadent dessert,
- Slice the fudge into bite-sized pieces
- Place on a lined baking sheet and freeze for 1 hour. (Optional but will solidify the fudge and prevent it from sticking back together or smushing in the freezer)
- Place in an airtight container or freezer bag
- Freeze for up to 3 months
Allow the fudge to defrost at room temperature before serving, for the best taste and texture.
What type of chocolate is best to make chocolate fudge
In this recipe I use semi-sweet chocolate chips to make the chocolate marshmallow fudge. However, this recipe can be made with a variety of chocolate, depending on your family’s preferences. Some other great options for chocolate marshmallow fudge are,
- dark chocolate
- milk chocolate
- white chocolate
- flavoured chocolates (like mint or sea salt)
- or use a mixture of chocolate (like semi-sweet mixed with dark)
Can I replace the marshmallows in this recipe?
Yes! You can replace or omit the marshmallow in this recipe. Try adding in some ingredients that your family loves and that mix well with chocolate. Some great options you might want to try are,
- chopped nuts (like walnuts or pecans)
- small or chopped candies (like m&m minis)

You could also use a mixture of ingredients like marshmallow and nuts to make a rocky road fudge!
Can I use different flavourings for chocolate fudge?
Yes! I used vanilla flavouring for this fudge recipe, because it is the most universally loved flavouring for chocolate desserts. However, you can experiment by adding in different flavourings and extracts to make your own unique fudge recipe.
The original recipe calls for 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of vanilla extract. For other stronger flavours like mint, reduce the amount to ½ teaspoon (2 ml).
