  • Chill the patties for 15–20 minutes before cooking to help them hold their shape.
  • Brown the patties well before adding the gravy for deeper flavor.

How to Store Homemade Salisbury Steak

Homemade Salisbury steak is a wonderful make-ahead meal, and the rich mushroom gravy helps keep the beef patties tender and flavourful when stored properly.

Refrigerator

Allow the Salisbury steak and gravy to cool to room temperature before transferring them to an airtight container. Store the patties with the gravy to help prevent them from drying out. Properly stored, homemade Salisbury steak will keep in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

Freezer

Salisbury steak freezes beautifully, making it a great option for meal prep. Place the cooled patties and gravy in a freezer-safe container. Freeze for up to 3 months for the best quality.

To serve, thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.

Reheating

For the best texture, reheat Salisbury steak gently on the stovetop over medium-low heat until the patties are heated through and the gravy is bubbling.

You can also reheat individual portions in the microwave. Cover loosely and heat in 30-second intervals, stirring the gravy between each interval until warmed through.
