Autumn Moon Crochet Fingerless Gloves

Gorgeous, warm crochet fingerless gloves are part of the Autumn Moon series. I love the look of buffalo plaid for fall designs. It is, in my opinion, a timeless design. Plus, these fingerless gloves are simple and quick to put together!

I hope you enjoy the pattern, and make some of the other Autumn Moon items to go with them!

  • Tapestry needle
  • 6 buttons (optional)
  • Thread (if using buttons)

Stitches and Terms Used

  • ch/chs: Chain/chains

Pattern Notes For Crochet Fingerless Gloves

  • The cuff is worked back and forth and then joined together.
  • The main fingerless gloves are worked in the round.
  • The gloves are, shades of orange, buffalo plaid. Although not necessary, your colour choice should be two colours, and the third colour being a close mix of the first two colours. For example, if you choose white and black for your first two colours of yarn, the third colour should be grey.
  • This pattern is written for an adult woman size hand.
  • Colour 1 – cream. Colour 2 – pheasant. Colour 3 – pumpkin
  • As you are working your stitches you must keep the other two yarns with you. Keep the yarn in the middle and crochet over them. This keeps them hidden and carries them with you.
  • When making the colour transitions, during the last hdc st, you have to yarn over with the next colour blocks colour and pull that through the hdc. This gives you a more defined colour block.

For the Cuff

With colour 1 and a 4mm hook, chain 15.

(Row 1) Turn. In the third chain from the hook make a half double crochet. Continue making hdc until you reach the chain you started. (14 hdc)

(Row 2) Turn. Chain 2. Make a hdc blo in the first sp. Continue making hdc blo all the way until the last sp. Make a hdc in the last sp.

(Row 3) Turn. Chain 2. Make hdc blo in the first sp. Continue making hdc blo all the way until the last sp. Make a hdc in the last sp.

(Row 4-18) Continue going back and forth making hdc blo in all of the sps, but completing the last sp with a regular hdc. Do this until you have made 18 rows. ( This should now fit around your wrist)

Fold your material in half to make a cuff. (You will now join both sides together using a sl st.) With your hook still in the stitch you left off, put your hook in the back loop of the corresponding stitch on the opposite side of the fabric where you are joining them together. Sl st. Insert your hook into the next front loop and then the back loop of the opposite side of the fabric you are joining. Sl st. Rep until you have reached the bottom, and your fabric is fully stitched together.

For the Main Crochet Fingerless Gloves

(Round 1) With your hook still in the last st, at the top of your cuff. Ch 2. (This is still colour 1, cream) Hdc into the same st. Hdc into the next two stitches. (Since it is the top of the cuff, you do not have defined sps. I space three hdc evenly in the top of each column of the cuff.) Change to colour 2. Hdc into the next 3 sps. Change back to colour 1. Hdc into the next 3 sps. Change back to colour 2. Hdc into the next 3 sps. Continue in this way, switching between the two colours every three sps, until you reach the last 2 columns.

We will now be creating the space for the thumb.

Make three colour blocks over the next 2 columns. (That will be 9 sts) You will now be back at the beginning. Sl st to the top of the first hdc. (While you are working keep the yarn you are not using in the middle of the stitches, to carry it with you and keep it hidden). When you reach the end of the round you should have 10 colour blocks, (five in each colour).

(Round 2) Turn. With colour 2, ch 2. Hdc in the same space and in the next 2 sps. Switch to colour 1. Hdc in the next 3 sps. Switch back to colour 2. Hdc in the next 3 sps. (All of the colours should match up with the colours of the previous row.) Continue in this way, until you have reached the end of the round. Sl st to the top of the first hdc.

(Round 3) Turn. Ch 2 with colour 2. Hdc in the same sp and the next 2 sps. Change to colour 3 (pumpkin). Hdc in the next 3 sps. Switch back to colour 2. Hdc in the next 3 sps. Switch back to colour 3. Hdc in the next 3 sps. Continue in this way, in the new colour pattern, until you reach the end of the round. Sl st into the top of the first hdc.

(Round 4) Turn. Ch 2 with colour 3. Hdc in the same sp and in the next 2 sps. Change to colour 2. Hdc in the next 3 sps. Change to colour 3. Hdc in the next 3 sps. Continue in this way, until you reach the end of the round. Sl st into the top of the first hdc.

(Round 5) Turn. (We are now going to be going back to the first colour pattern) Ch 2 with colour 1. Hdc in the same st and in the next 2 sps. Change to colour 2. Hdc in the next 3 sps. Switch to colour 1. Hdc in the next 3 sps. Continue in this way, until you reach the end of the round. Sl st to the top of the first hdc.

(Round 6) Turn. Ch 2 with colour 2. Hdc in the same sp and in the next 2 sps. Change to colour 1. Hdc in the next 3 sps. Change to colour 2. Hdc in the next 3 sps. Continue in this way, until you reach the end of the round. Sl st to the top of the first hdc.

(Round 7&8) You will now be switching back to the colour pattern of colour 2 and colour 3. You will use hdc, switching back and forth between the colours every three sts. You will join your round with a sl st. Do this for the two rounds of this colour pattern.

Making the thumb hole

(Round 9) We are now going to create the thumb hole. Turn. With colour 3 ch 1. Make 3 single crochets on top of the colour 3 sts from the previous row. Moving backwards, one colour block past were you joined the previous row. Skip past the row of colour 2 and sl st into the first colour 3 st after the colour two colour block of the previous round. (When you make the sl st it should give you a thumb hole sp consisting of 2 colour blocks.) Now looking back from where you left off, with the 3 sc sts, continue on with your smaller rounds, ignoring the thumb section. Chain 2 with colour 1. Hdc in the same sp and in the next two sps. Switch to colour 2. Hdc in the next 3 sps. Switch to colour 1. Hdc in the next three sps. Continue in this way until you reach the end of the new shorter round. (Ignoring the thumb hole). Sl st to the top of the first hdc.

(Round 10-12) Turn. You will continue in this way making hdc, switching every three sts, and alternating every two rows with the two different colour patterns. You will do this until you have two colour block patterns above the thumb hole. (This should be three more rounds) Or until you have reached the desired length for your gloves.

Woman finishing the crochet glove with a row of single crochet

(Round 13) Once you have sl st your final round of the colour pattern. Using colour 3 (or your desired colour choice). Turn. Ch 1. Sc in the top of each sp, until you have reached the end of the round. Sl st to the top of the ch 1 sp. Cut your yarn. Tie it off and sew in all of your ends.

Turn your work inside out. (This will hide any pieces of yarn that may be showing from carrying different colours of yarn.)

Embellishments

(Optional) Choose three buttons for the cuff of each glove. With a needle and thread, sew the buttons down the outer part of the cuff (the part opposite the thumb)
