How to store Old-Fashioned Hello Dolly Squares
This recipe makes 12 of squares, so you can snack on them all week long! To make sure they stay as fresh as the day you made them, make sure to store them properly.
Room temperature
- Allow the squares to cool completely.
- Cut into squares and store in an airtight container.
- They will stay fresh at room temperature for up to 4 days. They will be soft and ooey gooey. If you want them firmer store in the fridge.
Fridge
This is my preferred way of storage. They are more solid for serving.
- Allow to the squares to cool completely.
- Cut into bitesized bars and store in an airtight container.
- Store in the fridge for up to 1 week.
Freezer
- Place leftover squares in an airtight container.
- Store in the freezer for up to 3 months.
- Allow the squares to defrost the day before, in the fridge, before serving.

Substitutions
Feel free to substitute some of the ingredients in this recipe to suit your taste.
Some great options are,
- Swapping out the Graham cracker crust for an Oreo crumb crust.
- Nuts can be replaced with the same amount of white chocolate chips, dried fruit, or even Skor bits.

Ingredients
Graham cracker crumbs – You can make your own crumbs by placing full Graham crackers in a food processor of crushing them in a bag with a rolling pin.
Butter – Helps bind the crust together.
Chocolate chips – Use your favourite type chocolate from dark, milk, or even butterscotch chips for this recipe.
Nuts – Your favourite type of chopped nut from pecans to cashews will work for this recipe.
Shredded coconut – I use shredded, desiccated, unsweetened coconut for this recipe.
Sweetened condensed milk – Make sure to use sweetened condensed milk not canned evaporated milk.

How to make Old-Fashioned Hello Dolly Squares
- Preheat the oven to 350 °F (180 °C).
- Line an 8-in. square oven-proof dish or pan with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, mix together 1 cup of Graham cracker crumbs with 1/4 cup of melted butter.
- Press this into a thin layer in the bottom of the lined pan.


5. Sprinkle on top 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips, 1/2 cup of chopped nuts, 1 cup of shredded coconut.
6. Spread this mixture out evenly to the sides and corners of the dish.
7. Pour evenly on top, 1 can of sweetened condensed milk.
8. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
9. Remove from the oven and allow the squares to cool completely. Then chill at least 30 minutes before slicing.


Vintage Hello Dolly Squares

- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips 175 g

- 1 cup shredded unsweetened coconut 100 g
- 1 can sweetened condensed milk
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 °F (180 °C).
- Line an 8-in square oven proof dish or pan with parchment paper.
- In a bowl mix together 1 cup of Graham cracker crumbs with 1/4 cup of melted butter.
- Press this into a thin layer in the bottom of the lined pan.

Notes
