How to store yeast risen Belgian waffles

Fridge

  • Allow the waffles to cool to room temperature
  • Place a piece of parchment paper between each to prevent them sticking together
  • Store in an airtight container or cover completely in plastic wrap.
  • Keep in the fridge for up to 3 days.

Freezer

  • Allow the waffles to cool to room temperature
  • Freeze in a single layer on a baking sheet for 1 hour
  • Place in an airtight container or freezer bag
  • Store in the freezer for up to 3 months
  • When ready for use you can either reheat in the microwave, in the oven, or pop each straight into the toaster!

Ingredients

Milk – Adds flavour, texture, and moisture.
Eggs – Helps bind the batter together and provides a soft richness.
Flour – All-purpose flour is all that’s needed for the perfect Belgian waffle.
Salt – Flavour
Yeast – This is used to rise the dough and provide all of those light as air bubbles inside of the cooked waffles.
Melted butter – Provides richness, flavour, and helps keep everything from sticking to the waffle iron.
Vanilla – Flavour.

How To make Yeast Risen Belgian Waffles

  1. In a large bowl add 1 ½ cups warm milk and 1 ½ teaspoons dry-active yeast. Set it aside for a few minutes for the yeast to soften and become foamy.
  2. Add in 2 eggs, ½ teaspoon salt, 1/3 cup melted butter, and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Stir to combine.

3. Stir in 2 cups flour until you have a smooth batter, a few little lumps are fine.

4. Cover with plastic wrap and set aside for 1 hour, in a warm spot, for the batter to rise.

5. *At this point the batter can be stored, covered in the fridge to rise and ferment overnight if desired or used right away.*

6. Preheat your waffle iron.

7. Brush the top and bottom with a little bit of oil or butter.

8. Scoop about 1/3 to 1/2 cup of the bubbly batter into the waffle iron and cook according to the manufacturers directions.

9. Once lightly crisp and golden, remove to a plate and continue to cook the rest of the batter.

10. Waffles can be kept warm on a baking sheet and keep in a 200 °F (90 °C) oven until all of the waffles are cooked and ready to serve.

  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dry-active yeast 5 g
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/3 cup melted butter 80 ml
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt 2 g
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 5 ml
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour 300 g
  • oil, cooking spray, or butter to grease the waffle iron

Instructions
