Ingredients
Milk – This loaf is made with an enriched dough, using milk instead of water.
Sugar – For flavour and to help activate the yeast.
Yeast – To rise the dough.
Salt – Flavour.
Flour – Use all-purpose flour for this recipe.
Butter – To add softness and richness to the bread.
Pizza sauce – Pizza sauce is thicker than pasta sauce and will stay in place when rolling up the dough.
Cheese – I used mozzarella cheese for a classic pizza taste.
Herbs – Use the fresh or dried herbs you love. For a classic Italian pizza taste, I used basil, rosemary, and oregano.

How to make Twisted Pizza Bread
- In the bowl of a stand mixer or in a large bowl is making the bread by hand, add in 1 tsp of sugar and 1 1/4 cups of warm milk.
- Sprinkle on top 2 1/4 tsp of dry active yeast and set aside for a few minutes for the yeast to soften.
- Mix in 4 cups of flour and 1 tsp of salt until the dough comes together.


4. Knead in 1/3 cup of soft butter in a few additions until it absorbs into the dough.
5. Knead until you have a smooth soft dough ball. This should take about 5 minutes in a machine or 8 minutes if kneading the dough by hand.
6. Cover and let rise, in a warm place, for 1 hour or until doubled.


7. Tip the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Roll or press it out into a rectangle.
Toppings
8. Spread 1 cup of pizza sauce on top.


9. Sprinkle on 12 oz of grated cheese and add chopped fresh herbs or dried herbs to taste.
Shaping
10. Roll the dough up into a log.
11. Cut the dough down the centre length wise.


12. Twist the two strands together and pinch at both ends to seal.
13. Place the loaf on a cookie sheet and let rise, in a warm place, for 1 hour or until doubled in bulk. You could also split the long loaf in half and place each half in a greased loaf pan.
Baking
14. Preheat your oven to 400 °F (200 °C).
15. Bake the loaf for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and sounds hollow when you tap the top.
16. (Optional) Remove from the oven and immediately brush the top with 2 Tbsp of garlic butter.
17. Allow the loaf to cool 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
